A 90S KIND OF MOTHERHOOD
My Outfit: Walmart Suit (blazer, vest, pants), Steve Madden mules, Madewell purse, and Blue Nile locket necklace
Scottie’s Outfit: Zara jumper dress, blouse, socks, and loafers (shop all here), Amazon bows
When I was pregnant with Scottie, I read many articles and comments on social media from moms who noticed they were absent from many of their family photos. Usually, the moms were the ones behind the camera. Of course, dads had more photos than they could count. I vowed to ensure I had pictures with Scottie and Michael as she grew up. I was the kid who ran upstairs to grab the photo albums every time I visited my aunt or grandmother. I’m thankful Michael never hesitates to take the camera and snap some quick photos before dinner or after church.
I’m an 80s baby, so I spent most of my childhood navigating the 90s. These photos look like so many of my childhood photos. Scottie looks so much like me as a kid. My mom got her nails done faithfully! She loved red nail polish. I think of her whenever I have my nails painted red. I think that’s what makes these photos almost look vintage to me. I have an old photo album in Scottie’s room. It has my high school graduation pictures, and the rest is empty. I sent these and some other photos to be printed, and I plan to put them in that album. Maybe she will pull it out and look through it for hours like I loved to do growing up. Motherhood is full of full-circle moments, isn’t it?
