PATTERN PLAY

I was talking to someone recently about pattern mixing. They were telling me how intimidating it was to wear two completely different patterns. I told them that pattern mixing doesn't have to be intimidating and you can do it in a subtle way. Take this outfit for example. I kept the color palette simple with using two black and white pieces. I also chose small-scale patterns and each piece actually has the same size pattern. The top and skirt look like one entire piece. Here are some ways to incorporate pattern mixing into your wardrobe:

- Using stripes as one of your patterns is an easy way to pattern mix. I mean they do go with everything.

- Pay attention to scale. In my outfit in this post the small-scale prints on both items make the pieces pair seamlessly.

- If you can choose a matching color in each print, the pieces will complement each other instead of clash.
